Minister of Mines and Steel Development and Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has urged the citizens of the state to remain steadfast in their desire to deploy their constitutional right to effect the needed change in the socio-political and economic situation of the state.

Dr Fayemi who made the appeal in his Democracy Day Message to the people of the state, said the citizens can chart a brighter future for the state and the country in general by actively participating in the democratic process.

The APC Governorship Candidate urged the people to demonstrate their commitment to the success of the on going electoral process by obtaining their voters cards, (which allow them to participate in the voting exercise), participating in the process and defending the sanctity of their votes on election day.

He urged the people not to succumb to any form of intimidation or any obnoxious arrangements that can compromise their rights to choose.

He said the Federal Government under President Mohammadu Buhari has consistently demonstrated its commitment to the growth of democracy in the country by creating conducive atmosphere that allows the wishes of the people to prevail at all the elections conducted so far.

“We are encouraged by the steadfastness of the President Buhari administration in its commitment to democratic growth by ensuring that the votes of the citizens count.

“We are convinced that the coming governorship election in the state will be carried out in an atmosphere that is devoid of violence and brigandage and that the people will be able to discharge their constitutional rights in a peaceful manner and effect the needed change.

“While we congratulate the citizens of our dear state for witnessing another Democracy Day, we also salute the courage and contributions of many illustrious citizens of the state to the actualisation of the democracy that we all now enjoy.

“The labour of our heroes of democracy, both living and dead will not be in vain. Through our collective efforts, we shall build the Ekiti State of our dream, where values would be placed on human dignity, where workers would earn their wages as and when due and where institutions would be respected.”
